Our first example is for Comedi - The Linux Control and Measurement InterfaceOur second example is for the PicoScope PC oscilloscope.
Our third example is for self-hosted development environments (using inexpensive Android and Raspberry Pi products).
Our fourth example is to install Firebird SQL Database and use it with LibreOffice Base.
There are simple tools (free and open source) and code for C, Python, and Pascal on the examples above. If you are an experienced programmer then this probably doesn't apply to you. But if you or someone you know is just starting out, maybe these types of projects can be a valuable resource.
These folks have been doing something similar (demonstrating
simple tools) since 1998: http://software-carpentry.org/
There is a bit more to the story here.
More in depth than the Software Carpentry workshops, are these
bootcamps. Also see Learning
Options & Resources for Python.
